JET Tales: stories from rural Japan

This website is a record of my experiences in the JET Programme as an AET (Assistant English Teacher) in two Japanese public high schools.

Food
vocab | etiquette
It all comes down to a food vocabary list and a skeleton guide to dining etiquette. I have abandoned my earlier promises to write about places to go or avoid. Find out for yourself: it is more fun that way. Good places a) are usually tiny and hard to find, b) require some Japanese ability, and c) appear and disappear. For Kyoto, The Kansai Time Out and The Kyoto Visitor's Guide are good resources.
Basics
vocab | etiquette
A very basic vocabulary list and some simple etiquette. This will not help anyone speak Japanese, but it will introduce some terms and phrases that are frequently heard and not always explained. Same with the etiquette - these tips are only useful for raw beginners.
