JET Tales: stories from rural Japan

This website is a record of my experiences in the JET Programme as an AET (Assistant English Teacher) in two Japanese public high schools.

[ JET Resources: General ]
Jetset Japan: a by-JETs, for-JETs site that is useful for current JETS, newbies, and curious applicants. Questions? Comments? Wondering about banking options, phone charges, selling your stuff, or travel ideas? It's all here. You can also go here for daily currency exchange rates, headlines - Japan and abroad - and links to GoLLoyds.com

Big Daikon: another by-JETs, for-JETs site that offers blunt appraisals of participation in the JET Programme. The discussion board is active and sometimes informative. Articles cover such topics as housing horrors, global history issues, and self-introduction ideas.
*note to JETs: for whatever reason, this sight has apparently been banned from access by some BOE's, so you may not be able to access it from school or office

JET-L Archives: the online archives of JET-L, a mailing list created and maintained by a JET-alumn. The archives cover all aspects of life as a JET. If you have a question, just subscribe to the list and fire away - or else, cruise through the archives. *For newcomers, the May-August entries seem to cover most of the important questions and concerns

JET Program Support Site: a great site with information on pre-departure preparations, an example of one ALT's self introduction, and what to expect at school. This site also maintains a list of homepages by present and past JETs

The Japan FAQ Annex: Rob Murphy's guide to life in Japan: know before you go. Information on etiquette, cost of living, culture, teaching English, and festivals.

JetRing Homepage: a JET webring

JapanInfo: a volunteer-based site of articles, tips, and general info for foreigners in Japan - not just for JETs!

ALT Online: a JET resource guide - before, during, and after the JET Program

JET Keiken: a brief overview of the JET experience

Kitakyushu JET: this well-crafted site is specific to Kitakyushu, but it also has a lot of great links and information

Shiga Survival Guide: a sweet site for Shiga JETs. I wish Kyoto had something like it!
